Elon Musk's satellite internet venture Starlink is facing threats from Brazil's telecom regulator as a public spat over the country's decision to ban his social networking startup X has intensified.

Brazil's top court this week imposed a countrywide suspension on X for failing to designate a legal representation by the stipulated period, in compliance with national legislation. On Monday, a group of justices on the US Supreme Court affirmed that decision.

Internet service providers have been directed by Brazil's telecoms regulator, Anatel, to obstruct access to X in compliance with the court ruling. According to Reuters, Artur Coimbra, an Anatel commissioner, Starlink is the sole company that has informed the regulator that it would not follow the court's ruling.

Musk and Brazil have been at odds since April when an X spokesman said that the business had to "block certain popular accounts due to court decisions." Soon after, Musk declared that the limitations had been lifted and advised users to use a virtual private network in case the social network was blocked in order to access X.

Just as Brazil gets ready for October local elections, the dispute heated up. Social media companies are required by national legislation to hire a person capable of receiving and taking into account removal requests about political disinformation from the government.

There isn't an employee of X in Brazil at all. Last month, the firm announced that it was pulling out all of its employees due to ongoing tensions, which led to the most recent legal disputes.
